Today Kalya and I made our first of many trips to Primeros Pasos. This was also our first trip on a camioneta, which is an OLD recycled US school bus used for mass transit here in Xela. Camionetas are dusty, bumpy, and very brightly decorated. Unfortunately, I do not yet have a picture of a camioneta.
The photo of the day shows Kalya walking down the dusty road to Primeros Pasos. The clinic is actually visible on the right, though another better picture will be forthcoming. Please note the dust streaming from the back of the truck barreling towards us. The word which describes today best is dust. Dust in the bus. Dust on the road. Dust in my mouth. Dust in my shoes. Wow.
The Palajunoj Valley is absolutely beautiful, as you can see from a few of the other pictures that I uploaded to Picasa. Our first impressions of the place have been good. Our project, while difficult, does currently seem feasible. Tomorrow we will have another meeting with the clinic director to iron out some rough spots, and hopefully we can begin next week.
Kalya says that her pictures are on facebook, so check them out too.

In Nicaragua, we had "autobuses" instead of "camionetas", but other than the name they sound exactly the same. So does the dust. Oh, fond memories of Central American travel.
