5/27/08 - Searching for a place to live

Kalya and I arrived last night and made our way to Casa Argentina, a rather rambunctious hostel popular with backpackers and past-their-prime stoners. Today's photo is the view from our balcony over Quetzaltenago.

Today, we went searching for a place to call home for the next several weeks. We were looking for a small apartment with two beds, a bathroom, and a kitchen. We quickly discovered that options abound in the $175-200/month price range, which sounded great to us.

The biggest challenge is not finding a place, it's finding a place with two beds. Without fail, when we told our potential landlords that we were looking for two beds, they turned to me and said something like this:
-"No, it's ok, I don't care if you two sleep together."
-"What, you two aren't lovers?"
or my favorite "You're gonna want that single bed..."

Looking for a nice place to stay consumed most of the day, but we also managed to find the HiperPaíz to buy SIM cards and toilet paper. Tonight we'll meet up for dinner with Jess, the director of Primeros Pasos, and tomorrow morning will be our first glimpse of the clinic.

Hasta mañana!

If you want to come back and do a triathlon with me, I think I'm entering one on July 19th. I figure you can maybe fit some training in between all your research work.
