7/9/08 - The beard is gone (at last)!

Last night I could no longer take the beard, and so I began to cut. Its demise consisted of two discreet phases. First, it became a set of friendly mutton chops (there are pictures). Unfortunately, the mutton chops looked pretty unprofessional. So I continued to shave until I reached what you see above. That's where I stopped for the night.

This morning, about fifteen minutes before I left for clinic, I realized that there was no way a Guatemalan woman would talk to me about her UTI if I looked like this. So I hastily chopped off the rest of my beard. RIP Barba.

In hindsight, it was a good thing. We knocked out a dozen interviews today, making it possibly the best day we've ever had in clinic. It would be a shame to lose those interviews to an ill-conceived mustache.

The stache looked nice, but probably a good call cutting it off.

I recently asked some Kaz volunteers about keeping a beard and looking professional over there. They said not many natives do it, but quite a few Peace Corps men sport the look. I was excited.
