6/2/08 - A highly anticipated move (double post)

6/1/08

Today we finally got to move into our new place at Casa Jaguar. The room you see above runs $80.00 per person per month, which is pretty sweet! It's way quieter and more usable than Casa Argentina, which is great for a few nights but difficult for two months.

Most of today was spent moving, working on our database for the chart review we're working on, and waiting for the tropical storm to hit. We're not sure that it did, but it sure started raining hard at about 8:00pm.

Rain combined with the move meant no post last night, but hopefully this double post will make up for it.

Man, it was weird to write about yesterday. I feel better being back in the present. Today we woke up in Casa Jaguar, very happily, expecting to head into the clinic to begin our chart review. That's when we experienced our first of (so they say) many Xela blackouts.

It turns out that Xela's power grid doesn't really handle rain well, which is pretty unfortunate since we are entering the rainy season. Luckily the lights came back on by 9:30 or so. While we sat in the dark, wondering what we should do, Jess gave us a call and told us that the clinic was closed today because the roads were too muddy and buses weren't running.

So with the clinic closed, we had lots of time to take care of things. We headed out in the pouring rain to run some errands, like grocery shopping, laundry, and so on. And this trip to the internet cafe is part of that set of errands.

All in all, it's been a few days of getting established here in Xela before really diving into our project, which should start tomorrow. We talked with Jess about our project changes, and she seems pretty excited about our new plan. We're both really excited to get started, too.

It looks like tomorrow is tropical storm-free, and hopefully we'll be able to start. So that'll be an exciting post to look forward to...

How about some captions for the "photo of the day"? That second one looks awesome, but I have no clue what it is.
