Only a quick post today from Panajachel, on the shores of Lake Atitlan. We arrived after a rainy 3 hour bus ride from the crazy Minerva bus terminal in Xela, and magically the rain stopped as we passed through Solola, about half an hour from Pana.
Once we found a hotel (yes, not a hostel tonight, a real hotel with towels and everything), we set off for Reserva Natural Atitlan, a well-regarded private nature preserve just outside of Pana. It's known for many things, including it's monkeys! More monkey pictures will surely surface once Kalya and I travel to Petén, but for now this one is the best I've ever taken.
After the preserve, we headed back to Pana to do the touristy Latin American thing and shop for brightly colored woven goods at rock bottom prices. I have yet to buy, but the bug will probably bite within a day or two.
Tonight is pizza and music at a circus-themed place which is supposedly popular with weekenders from Guatemala City, we'll see how that goes...
P.S. There are lots of monkey pictures on Picasa.

Hi Brad-
I'm really enjoying your blogs, and wonderful observations and photos. We were thinking about you as Laura was returning from Belize in the midst of the tropical storm. Hopefully the rainy season means 40% chance of thunderstorms every day, not tropical storm-like weather on a regular basis. Since it will be incredibly hot here in Atlanta (and even more so in DC) for the next week, rain sounds like a welcome relief!
Keep up the postings.
Marion
