We made a really delicious dinner last night, consisting of rice, refried beans, avocado, and tostada. It felt pretty Guatemalan, and that made me happy. There's not much of a good story here, except that the avocados were delicious. I think it's because we got a Guatemalan woman to pick them for us. "Dos por hoy, y dos por mañana." I'm pretty excited about the two left for tonight.
This morning was cold and cloudy, but I'm thrilled to report that it only rained for a few hours today. There's plenty of project news, but I'll blow through it because while it may be the reason that we are here, it's certainly not the most interesting thing going on.
In the last two days, Kalya and I have entered that data from an entire file cabinet drawer worth of charts. There are four drawers of female charts at Primeros Pasos, so that means that it will only take us about 8 full days to enter all of the data on female patients over the past five years!
Surveys are officially ready to go, which is exciting, and we have both been practicing them with various clinic personnel this week. We did have two eligible survey participants show up to clinic today, but when I approached them they declined to participate. A slight setback, but next week we're going to make it happen.
This afternoon Kalya and I decided to take some pictures of the clinic. There were still some kids around, and the photo of the day is one of many examples of the crazy things kids do when they see cameras. For some reason, they all decided to do synchronized cartwheels. It was a pretty cool moment.
This weekend we're headed to Lake Atitlan, supposedly one of the most beautiful lakes in the world. I'm not sure I'll be updating until Sunday, but brace yourselves for a mega-post and lots more pictures.
